Grade Calculator – User Guide

This is a simple Grade Calculator that converts your test/exam scores into letter grades based on percentage. It calculates your percentage score and assigns the appropriate grade according to a standard grading scale. Perfect for students checking exam results, teachers grading assignments, or anyone wanting to quickly convert scores to grades.

How to Use

Step 1: Enter Your Scores

1. Total Marks: Enter the maximum possible marks/points for the test or exam
   • Example: 100 (for a test out of 100)
   • Example: 50 (for a quiz out of 50)
   • Must be greater than 0
2. Obtained Marks: Enter the marks/points you actually scored
   • Example: 85 (you scored 85 points)
   • Must be less than or equal to the total marks
   • Cannot be negative

Step 2: Calculate

3. Click the “Calculate Grade” button to see your result
   • Or press Enter after typing the obtained marks for quick calculation
4. Click the “Clear” button to reset all fields and start over

Understanding Your Results

The result box displays two key pieces of information:

Grade (Large Letter)

• Your letter grade is based on the percentage
• Displayed in large, bold text (e.g., A+, B, C)

Percentage

• Your exact percentage score
• Shown below the grade with 2 decimal places (e.g., 85.67%)

Grading Scale

The calculator uses this standard grading system:

Calculation Method

Formula:

Percentage = (Obtained Marks ÷ Total Marks) × 100

Then the grade is assigned based on the percentage range.

• Total Marks: 100
• Obtained Marks: 92

Output:

• Grade: A+
• Percentage: 92.00%

Example 2: Different Total

Input:

• Total Marks: 50
• Obtained Marks: 38

Output:

Input:

Output:

⌨️ Press Enter after typing Total Marks → Moves to Obtained Marks field

⌨️ Press Enter after typing Obtained Marks → Automatically calculates grade

Error Handling

The calculator includes smart validation:

❌ “Please enter valid marks” appears when:

• Fields are empty
• Non-numeric values are entered
• Total marks are 0 or negative

❌ “Obtained marks cannot be greater than total marks” appears when:

• You obtained marks higher than the total marks (e.g., 110/100)

Understanding Letter Grades

Grade Meanings:

Important Notes
