How Federal Tax Brackets Work
The U.S. uses a progressive tax system. You don’t pay one flat rate on all your income. Instead:
For Single Filers (2024):
- First $11,600 → taxed at 10%
- $11,601 to $47,150 → taxed at 12%
- $47,151 to $100,525 → taxed at 22%
- And so on…
You only pay the higher rate on income within that bracket, not on all your income.
