How to Use the Discount Calculator
Two Calculation Modes:
Mode 1: Simple Discount (Default)
Calculate a single discount on an item.
Step 1: Select Simple Discount Mode Click the “Simple Discount” button (already selected by default).
Step 2: Enter Original Price Input the original price of the item before any discount.
Step 3: Select or Enter Discount Two ways to enter the discount:
- Quick Presets: Click any preset button (10%, 15%, 20%, 25%, 30%, 40%, 50%, 75%)
- Custom: Manually type any discount percentage in the discount field
Step 4: Add Sales Tax (Optional) If applicable, enter your local sales tax percentage. Leave at 0 if not applicable.
Step 5: Calculate Click “Calculate” to see:
- Final price (after discount and tax)
- Discount amount in dollars
- Price after discount (before tax)
- Total savings
Mode 2: Multiple Discounts
Calculate stacked or sequential discounts.
Step 1: Select Multiple Discounts Mode Click the “Multiple Discounts” button.
Step 2: Enter Original Price Input the original price of the item.
Step 3: Enter Discount Percentages Input 2 or 3 discount percentages:
- First Discount: Applied to original price
- Second Discount: Applied to price after first discount
- Third Discount (Optional): Applied to price after second discount
Important: Multiple discounts are applied sequentially, NOT added together. For example, 20% + 10% off does NOT equal 30% off!
Step 4: Add Sales Tax (Optional) Enter your local sales tax percentage if applicable.
Step 5: Calculate Click “Calculate” to see:
- Final price (after all discounts and tax)
- Price after each discount step
- Combined discount percentage
- Total savings
Examples:
Example 1: Simple Discount
Scenario: $120 jacket with 25% off, 8% sales tax
- Mode: Simple Discount
- Original Price: $120
- Click: 25% preset button
- Sales Tax: 8
- Click Calculate
Result: Final price $97.20, you save $30!
Example 2: Multiple Discounts
Scenario: $200 item with “30% off + additional 20% off” sale
- Mode: Multiple Discounts
- Original Price: $200
- First Discount: 30
- Second Discount: 20
- Click Calculate
Result: Final price $112 (44% total discount), not $100 (50%)!
Example 3: Black Friday Deal
Scenario: $500 item, 40% off, no tax
- Mode: Simple Discount
- Original Price: $500
- Click: 40% preset
- Sales Tax: 0
- Click Calculate
Result: Final price $300, you save $200!
Clear Button: Resets all fields for a new calculation.
