Roofing Calculator
A roofing calculator helps you estimate the amount of roofing materials needed for your project. It calculates roofing squares (a standard measurement in roofing where 1 square equals 100 square feet), shingle bundles, underlayment, and ridge cap requirements. This tool accounts for roof pitch, which significantly affects the actual surface area, and includes a waste factor for cuts, overlaps, and mistakes.

How to Use the Roofing Calculator
Step 1: Select Roof Type. Choose from four options:
- Gable Roof: Traditional two-sided pitched roof
- Hip Roof: Four-sided pitched roof
- Flat Roof: Level or very low slope roof
- Custom Area: If you already know your total roof area
Step 2: Choose Your Uni.t Select your preferred measurement unit: Feet or Meters.
Step 3: Enter Dimension.s. Input the appropriate measurements based on your roof type:
- Gable/Hip/Flat: Enter roof length and width
- Custom: Enter the total roof area
Step 4: Select Roof Pitch (for pitched roofs). Choose your roof pitch from the dropdown. A 6/12 pitch (common) means the roof rises 6 inches for every 12 inches horizontal. Steeper pitches require more materials.
Step 5: Set Waste Factor. Enter the waste percentage (recommended 10-15%) to account for cutting, overlaps, and errors.
Step 6: Calculate. Click "Calculate" to see a comprehensive result, including roofing squares, shingle bundles (3 bundles per square standard), underlayment rolls, and ridge cap length.
